Key Solar Initiatives & Projects
- 1 GW by 2030 Plan: A strategic goal to generate 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar photovoltaic power by 2030 using an off-grid electrification strategy, aiming to reduce reliance on diesel generators and boost sustainable, clean energy, according to a YouTube video.
- Light Up Lagos Solar Streetlight Initiative: The Lagos State Electrification Agency (LSEA) is installing over 22,000 solar-powered streetlights on highways, bridges, and neighborhoods to improve public safety and night-time visibility, say Facebook posts and The Guardian Nigeria News.
- Floating Solar Power Plant: In partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Lagos is developing Nigeria’s first floating solar plant at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), according to The Nation Newspaper. A 7MW capacity plant is planned to provide stable, renewable energy, notes a Facebook post by CCECC.
- Lagos Solar for Schools Project: A public-private partnership (with DFID/Solar Nigeria) that has installed solar power systems (5kW to 25kW) in over 172 secondary schools and 11 primary health centers in rural and peri-urban areas, reports AlternatioNAVITAS.
- $435M Renewable Energy Deal: In October 2025, Lagos signed a $435 million deal to deliver 150MW of solar power, including a 150MW project by Axiano Solar and a solar equipment manufacturing/recycling plant by Levene Photovoltaic Technologies Limited, say
